01 About

My name is Jeff Mears. I am a designer and coder from San Diego, California relocating to Portland, Oregon.

Thirteen years ago I started designing websites and writing code. Since then I’ve led large creative teams, worked alone in the basement, and done pretty much everything in-between.

Today I am a front-end developer with a passion for excellence and a serious disdain for mediocrity. I love simple and beautiful designs. I obsess over clean and elegant code. At night I dream about the perfect balance of form and function.

The little things matter to me. Things that aren’t done with excellence get under my skin. I laugh. I work hard because it brings me satisfaction. It’s who I am. I crave new challenges, new learning situations and new ways to grow and succeed.

I enjoy helping make other people better. I’m an encourager and an optimist. I love the synergy of working with smart and talented people that really care.

I’m passionate about making a difference with my work, building beautiful websites and making customers extraordinarily happy.

I’m hoping you are passionate about the same.

04 Journey

It was here, in the great Northwest, that I took my first job as a “web designer” in the spring of 1999. In a few years this journey took me from a large ISP design team to starting a boutique web design firm. I led a handful of employees as we developed corporate intranets, websites and online campaigns for local and regional organizations. Through this time I gained valuable experience in project management, strategic planning and ColdFusion development.

In 2004 I became the Director of Creative Arts and Worship for City Bible Church, a large multi-site mega church in the Northwest. During the 5+ years I was there I oversaw development of websites, large scale productions and art direction for countless projects.

Then, in 2011 and 2012, I worked as a part of the creative team for a leading international children’s products company in San Diego, CA. Here I continued in web and graphic design, leaning heavily on my experience with HTML, CSS and jQuery as well as Photoshop and Illustrator. I also had the opportunity to develop and design new products, store displays, print projects and develop best-in-class online fundraiser ScentcoFundraising.com, which is now being used by schools and non-profits around the nation.

In the fall of 2012 I said goodbye to the sunshine, packed the uhaul and headed back to Portland to be close to friends, family and good coffee.
